Australia’s Lowy Institute Report on Chinese so-called “debt trap diplomacy,” Can be Dismissed as so much Baseless Fantasy, but is Gobbled Up by the Gullible West as Anti-China Propaganda

It is actual fact, and herein lies the rub, that poorer countries being assisted by China’s BRI through growth enhancing infrastructure investment at reasonable loan costs, are actually suffering from often multiple times higher borrowings from Western sources at multiple times the loan rate of China lending.

It is the West responsible for any “debt trap” concerns in developing nations.

Here are stories from both sides of the divide. Ask yourself who it is that you can trust.

‘Lowy report finds Pacific nations ‘grappling with a tidal wave of debt repayments’ to China’ – ABC news Online – May 27, 2025

‘Western selective blindness toward Chinese lending rooted in anxiety, bias’ – Global Times – May 29, 2025

The fact that the Lowy Institute can be described as an independent think tank founded in April 2003, located in Sydney, Australia, to conduct original, policy-relevant research regarding international political, strategic and economic issues from an Australian perspective, provides adequate objective focus as to the biased nature of its viewpoint. Though it says nothing as to the many possible foundational reasons – or even potential justifications – for that bias (or its converse). Those you have to determine for yourself from the two written pieces, or similar, I have provided above. Who do you trust.

I know who I trust more. And that can be easily discerned from what I said above and also from my earlier writings.

But what is often the most unfathomable part of this, to me, is why the untrustworthy keep doing the things they do? Surely they must know they can’t win? Or is it that they are just selectively blind and incapable of considering or adjusting to foreseeable outcomes?
