Microplastic Danger Dismissed

I have long had an issue with the so-called dangers of contamination from microplastics – but it was always going to be senseless to fight the myth which emanated from the bowels of pseudoscience. However, now, we can begin to air the truth of the matter.

‘It doesn’t harm us’: Russian scientist busts myths about microplastics – RT – Feb 15, 2025

Ok, this is RT, whatever issues you may want to make from that, but it is on the basis of talks with Alexei Khokhlov, by no means a lightweight in scientific circles. He has been a full Professor at the Moscow State University since 1988. Other appointments include: Member of the Board of Macromolecular Physics Section of European Physical Society (1999—); President of European Polymer Federation (2004—2005); Member of Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences, (2008—); Member of the Advisory Council on Science, Education and High Technologies for the President of Russian Federation (2008—2011); Chairman of the Polymer Council of Russian Academy of Sciences (from 2002, Vice-Chairman 1992—2002); Institute of Organo-Element Compounds of Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Polymers (1991—); Director of the Center for Advanced Experimental Facilities (1995—); Foreign Special Visiting Professor, Nagoya University (Japan) (1992); Adjunct Professor, State University of New York at Stony Brook (USA) (1993—); External Professor, University of Copenhagen (Denmark) (1997—2002); Honorary Professor, Head of the Institute for Polymer Science, University of Ulm (Germany) (2002—); Associate Member of IUPAC Macromolecular Division Committee (1995—1997), Titular Member (1997—2001), Associate Member (2001—2003).

It is not easy, based on that background, to dismiss anything he says about microplastic contamination or so-called pollution. In fact what he says makes perfect sense. Common sense even. I’m sold. But then, I was never sold the other way. Although I have, too many years ago to recall now, shared (now known to be fake) photos of cut open dead birds, stuffed with plastic pieces – given as false evidence of the results of plastic waste on wildlife. And more recently I have seen an image of a huge fish, washed up on a shore somewhere, with huge amounts of plastic garbage flowing from its lifeless jaws. How can anybody believe that sort of garbage these days? Have we lost all semblance of personal discrimination as to what is right and what can not be conceivably possible? Well there are many such avenues, across a great many separate issues where such loss of the ability to sense the truth is amply displayed, so why not in this case also?

Anyway, I am not going to prolong the argument. Read the article with an open and discriminating mind. Judge for yourself. All the relevant issues are discussed there.
