Three ‘Pigs in a Poke’

The new US administration, to a man (or woman), as a collective have no idea – not even a fucking clue – as to what goes on in the world outside their own shores.

Here are three stories from TASS today to prove it. What a junk-yard ‘America’ is today.

First, ‘Conflict with Russia threw Ukraine 100 years back — US secretary of state’ – TASS – Jan 31, 2025

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, of whom I have seldom thought (matching the number of times I have actually thought of him) resembles the Beatles ‘Nowhere Man’, whose main task now seems to be figuring out what to do with Ukraine – without touching anything or getting their dust on his shoes. Has he any idea what Ukraine was like back in 1924 (or a couple of years earlier), shortly after the revolution? It was nothing like today and did not include any part of Novorussia or the Crimea, and had no outlet to the Black Sea. These are all regions which today’s Russia has legally reclaimed or will shortly do so. He says all the damage to Ukraine from the current conflict must be paid for. Then pay for it Mr Rubio. The debt is rightfully owned by your country.

Secondly, ‘Trump refrains from commenting on possible contacts with Russian, Chinese leaders’ – TASS – Jan 31, 2025

Freshly minted or, more accurately, ‘repolished’ US President Donald Trump has said he is “doing very well” on both of his major issues of Russia and China, by actually keeping his mouth tightly shut. Which is indicative of the fact that he is clueless – or at least has no new ideas (same thing). And are these issues, these two very successful nations, really Trump’s major issues? I could nominate several other more pressing jobs he could be working on just now. But even so, silence can be interpreted many ways. Have his sleazy ‘intelligence’ operatives devised a temporary diversion by staging an airline disaster to cover for the lack of direction from the top? That is a bit of a low blow to infer, I know, but you can never tell how the devious US mind will attempt to deflect from its shortcomings – and such would not be a ‘first’, would it? The fact remains, the Boss, and presumably all of his assistants, are quite clueless on many matters. Their failure to prioritise anything testifies to that. The ‘shock and awe’ is all on them this time around.

Thirdly, ‘US intelligence to support negotiations on Ukraine – Trump’s pick for DNI’ – TASS – Jan 31, 2025

The new Director of National Intelligence ~~Gabby Tulsard~~, sorry, Tulsi Gabbard, who up to now has shown reasonable intelligence, in her past communications, now promises (if she gets the job) to provide the President with “all information he needs in order to facilitate his efforts” … “to get Russia and Ukraine to … the negotiating table”. Once again proving she lacks any understanding as to what awaits any US attempts to do that. So where is this ‘information’ coming from? Russia has no intention to negotiate anything unless on the basis of agreement to all of its previously stated demands. The information is already all there. All Trump has to do is agree. And this will all have to be done at a time of Russia’s choosing. Not on demand from Trump – or anyone else. And first someone, not the Zee-pianist, has to be appointed as a fit and proper representative for Ukraine to solemnly swear and sign their nation’s complete surrender – or capitulation, however you wish to describe it. And that will not be until there is no-one left in Ukraine who is willing to shoot at Russian soldiers (or citizens) who will be the only officials overseeing that the agreement holds throughout whatever is left of Ukraine, if anything. So, the charming Tulsi, is way out of her depth here (but no more than any other DNI representative would be).

I am not sure just how many pigs a poke is capable of holding. There would appear to be a large number of contenders in the new administration who might also need to be so accommodated. It is a sad thing, but that nation is clearly almost dead on its feet now. How long before it is on its knees? …and willing, and desirous of joining the rest of the human family of nations in peace and prosperity as a sovereign equal?
