Afghanistan… (and I intend this as a brief summary only [Wikipedia has a good, and lengthy, broad-scoped article on the country if you need to know more]) …a land of great historical importance and antiquity, is about the same size as Ukraine used to be (well, as it was for several decades prior to the last 2 years, and bigger than it will ever be again), blessed with many natural resources and – because of its location in South-Central Asia, and its size – possesses a large range of climatic conditions. A rugged and therefore beautiful land, it has borders with 6 other nations, including by a long and narrow strip, which resembles a back-door exit path, to China. And, with Russia also taking a renewed interest in the country, the western nations having recently been ingloriously tossed out, it has all the potential makings for a peaceful and prosperous future (if it plays its cards right) – having long dwelled somewhere near the bottom of that scale among the world’s nations. I believe it is even now receiving the right sort of help and advice to assist that to happen. I can see it one day becoming part of the fast growing Eurasian community of nations.
Apparently the question has been raised (by whom, I know not) of competition between Russia and China for access to Afghan resources. I don’t think this is or will be a real problem and Russia has made a statement to that effect…
‘Russia, China not competing for influence in Afghanistan — diplomat’ – TASS – May 29, 2024
This is the spirit of the new world order these nations, among many cooperative friends, are presently building. Which must be, I think, a breath of fresh air and comfort to the new Afghan government, and is far and away distinct from the attitude of the recently ousted previous dominatorial invaders. It makes me happy too.
