Deceit and Distortion – The American Way

I wish I could ignore this situation and write about something more interesting, but I can’t. Chiefly, I suppose, because my own country, Australia, is also caught up in this distasteful mess – on the fringes, but also on the wrong side again (as per usual). Can I be more specific? Of course. Take a look at this image… Specifically, at the red banner line…

It says (in case it is not clear) – TRUMP DIRECTS ENVOY TO MEET PUTIN TO FURTHER DISCUSS ‘FINE-TUNED’ UKRAINE PLAN: LIVE UPDATES

Now, assuming that you trust ‘RT’ to profer absolute truth in such obviously urgent messages (meriting LIVE UPDATES) – which, if you don’t, you may as well stop reading now – this banner is conferring a more or less direct message from some official US source to whoever may hold more than a passing interest. Which I guess would exclude a majority of FB or similar scrollers, whose ‘feeds’ would be full of much more important stuff. That may sound a little disdainful, which is exactly what it is fully intended to be. I am sorry. Sorry for those people, and for their ignorance as to the fate which could overtake their world and for which they would have no inkling of the reasons for it happening. I would help them if they came to me for help. But I am no crusader, and I feel no obligation to reach out a helping hand, nor to field arguments or justifications. My self-assigned task, in whatever time I have left to pursue it, or until events overtake all of us, placing us in situations of which perhaps none of us have (or even possibly could have) any prior experience of dealing with, is to offer such knowledge as I do have to those who are already aware, or are becoming aware, of a similar understanding as to our current local and global situation, and somehow find their way to my writings in search of what they feel may be useful information to grasp in those times, from whatever sources I, myself, gleaned that information. And that is all. I am not in a position to do more.

Oh my goodness! I did not intend, nor seek, for this to go in that particular direction when I began this piece. So, let’s get back on track.

There are a number of things to notice here (the banner message). It has become habitual for the Trump administration – or perhaps it is just Trump himself (lacking in communication skills as he is) – to forge and form opinions, often subliminally, in those who listen, by means of brief social media messages. There being less opportunities for incorrect messaging that way and less likelihood that the short attention spans of his listeners will become overburdened.

For example, and not for the first time, there is the unstated understanding that some non-factual position is, or can be, in fact presumed to be factual by recipients of the message.

In this case the inference is that both Trump and Putin (and/or their administrations), by inclusion of the word ‘further’ in the message, are (or have already been) in prior (or current) communication on the particular subject of the Trump initiated Ukraine Peace Plan in its original or latest ‘fine-tuned’ form. That is a simple inference to which, I hope, all can readily agree is definitely there. The problem is, it contains not a shred of truth.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, himself said yesterday…

Lavrov said Moscow never received any texts from Washington through official channels, but obtained it unofficially. Regardless, Russia will only discuss whatever the US eventually submits, and will do so confidentially, without resorting to “megaphone diplomacy,” the minister added. – quote from Lavrov denounces leak of Trump’s draft peace proposal

President Putin has also made similar statements in recent days, revealing that no official approach has been made to Russia with any peace plan and while media leakages may reveal some useful changes to prior announcements – I am summarising, not quoting here – Russia will only discuss and analyse officially presented documents when and if that happens.

Presenting a united front, as Russian sources have always done on this subject, since before the beginning of the conflict, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov today emphasized that Moscow will not cross any of its own red lines on Ukraine and urged the media to focus on objective reporting…

Dialogue with US, Western speculation, concessions: statements by senior Russian diplomat – TASS – Nov 27, 2025

There is simply no imminence to any Western statements about the signing of any peace plan for Ukraine, put together by anyone, Trump or others. This reveals a West that is in total disarray, perhaps even panic, and unable to talk cohesively – either jointly or separately – and with any semblance of authority or any moral, ethical or even truthful grounds or on any aspect of relevance to what is needed to be heard from them.

Where does this leave Russia? Well, basically, in a position to ignore all babbling Western voices and to continue exactly what it has been doing successfully now for the past 3-4 years. Ostensibly with no limiting factors or constraints whatsoever. In fact, with no prospective alternative end-point in sight, and in order to to resolve this quickly (which would benefit the whole world), the situation opens up various other military based opportunities. The thought of which would, I think, not be Russia’s preferred choice to make and would require extensive risk and cost-benefit analysis as to the wisdom of making such decisions. This is not to say that analysis has not already been performed, perhaps long ago and maybe even recently rechecked.

Russia is the one party to this shindig which clearly thinks ahead of the game. And while Russia may have made its last potential error of judgement only 3 years ago by underestimating the disastrous lengths to which the crazed minds of Nazis would to go to self-destruct their own nation (presenting a previously unseen resourceful and stubborn enemy), a newly awakened Russia now, believe me, possesses all the power required to make any and all of their future choices, work.

The West can only stand by, reduced to the role of impotently watching events, as they transpire. Yes, they could intervene, but only in one positive direction – to force Ukraine to stand down. All other choices lead nowhere. Well, nowhere anyone still possessing some capability for rational thought would ever want to go.

This is not finished. I want to say much more, but the subject is already becoming dated. Even though movements and events have not progressed much today. And most of what I still want to say, I have already said before. Some of it not all that recently.
