I personally rate Russia’s values very highly as a moderate traditionalist, though I choose not to hold to any overtly religious tradition, while also not condemning anyone else’s right to do so. Adherence to any religious tradition demands a righteous acceptance of at least one among many particular traditional doctrines, but cannot claim exclusivity to righteousness by doing do. It is my firm belief that humans can live righteously, upholding equivalent human values, without burdening themselves with allegiance and debt to any conceivable form of being of a higher nature than themselves. Surrounding issues are much more complex than that of course, but that is all I want to say on this here. And people must be free to make their own choices.
Such goes also for our choice as to the way we live. A matter which is generally decided by communal agreement among those with whom we live within a grouping of almost 200 nations. Lower level divergences, among cities which are large enough to portray their own ‘essence’ for example, and some ethnic groups formed through past global population movements, may also exist. And yet no divergent views should be permitted to override the general community view, while also being allowed to operate freely (and peacefully) within it.
Such is the position of the divergent adherents to what has become known as the LGBTQ… movement in recent days. Russia holds exactly the correct views on this subject. Divergent lifestyles are generally at liberty to exist within the community but must not be allowed to influence or propagate their ways to affect the general community position. Any inability to conform to the bounds of that peaceful liberty will eventually result in such a group being outlawed for exclusion from the community – as is the case for certain exclusive and pretentious religions in Russia. This is the right thing to do.
President Putin’s own view, as reported in the RT article below is…
We have only discussed a ban on propaganda. We have never spoken about banning non-traditional relationships. Moreover, we have always maintained that all people are equal … Adults have the right to live as they choose … and the majority … shares common core beliefs about morality. If we stop upholding our traditional values, Russia will lose its identity and, as a consequence, its statehood — which is extremely dangerous.
Russia never banned gays — Putin – RT – Nov 21, 2025
Now compare that test to the West. Both the traditional and the contemporary, 21st century West.
I feel sure I do not need to openly report the result.
