The main takeaways…

From what is said above, it seems likely that Russia plans to drill this possibly world’s largest oil reserve. Russia is possibly the only nation on the planet with the resources and skills to do this. I can’t say that for certain, but I believe it to be true. And, as Pepe suggests, neither Russia nor the US recognise any Antarctic claims (meaning ‘national’ claims to ownership rights), so there is little to prevent that from happening.

I suggest, as Pepe said, watching the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) to be held in Vladivostok next week (3-6 September, 2025) for more on this exciting news. This could be a really huge story.
