If you were to listen to the unelected Bloody Witch of the European Commission, Ursula Bloody von den Bloody Leiden croak, in her best crow cawing voice, about children ‘stolen’ from Ukraine by Russia, you may think (as you are obviously meant to do) that Russians are pure, vicious monsters. That is the whole western idea of the story.
The truth is very different. This was the action of both bravery and kindness – you may call it ‘pure humanity’ – led by a young Russian volunteer – now a member of the Russian State Duma, to rescue thousands of injured, frightened, often freshly orphaned children, from the terrible scenes of death and destruction waged on their communities, not by Russians but by the crazed nazi forces of their own (at the time) government.
The story is epic, but seldom heard in its honest fullness. Scott Ritter, seasoned US Marine, has harnessed that story from the lips of that young volunteeer, directly to the screen of your own electronic device if you choose to watch it, in a one hour interview with Yana Lantratova, who tells the true story in her own, personally lived version of events. It is difficult viewing because of the intensity of the conversation. Stirred emotions will undoubtedly run high. But you, and the world, needs to know this stuff, and what better way than first hand from the eyes and hands of one who took part in it – voluntarily and at great personal danger to herself.
