For the first time in three years a new negative Indian Ocean Dipole is emerging. That’s good news for Australian rainfall over the coming Spring and Summer, and for overall climate conditions.
I mentioned in my previous climate report that a lower ice build year in the Arctic (which this year was) due to later Northern ocean warming, usually results in a less severe ice melt season – the peak of which we will see in the next few weeks. This appears to be all coming together to reinforce the stabilised situation which is emerging of Arctic Sea Ice conditions and a return to cooler long-term climate generally. That is good, but entirely expected by those who understand climate beyond the usual hysteria, news.
