Have You Heard? It is the ‘Gravity-induced Atmospheric Thermostat’ which keeps us here, and alive.

What keeps our planet’s surface level temperature relatively stable for the endurance of human and other life-forms? You realise, of course, this is perhaps the single most important question that you could consider today? Well, here is the answer – It is the gravity Induced atmospheric thermostat inbuilt within the planet’s composition (for as long as we retain the atmosphere and gravity we have, that is). Lose that, and, well… then it really wouldn’t matter. We would no longer be here – and the Earth would become a deeply frozen dead planet.

The details are contained within this illuminating article from Climate Science Press…

Gravity-induced Atmospheric Thermostat – Climate Science Press – June 9, 2025

From which I repeat here the concluding paragraph, adjusted to be wholly bolded – since it is the complete statement which I consider to be of great importance.

Astronomical fluctuations in sunshine, surface phenomena such as ocean currents, El Niño or La Niña phenomena, extreme weather phenomena or even volcanic eruptions, as well as other factors that are probably poorly characterized, lead to variations in surface temperature that nevertheless remain relatively damped due to the stabilizing effect of the invariable atmospheric mass subject to gravity.

The implication being that the ‘interfering’ factors negated or relatively damped by the ‘mitigating’ factors of atmospheric mass and gravity. Whether we fully comprehend the scientific background or not, I think we can all understand those implications as being why we are all still here and living in relative comfort. Rather than being found nowhere on any other planet in our star system.

You may want to cancel your tickets to Mars, for instance.
