I can’t tell you how heartwarming that is for me. Australia and China Should (can I put that ‘SHOULD’ in capitals?) be closer together, if, in fact, we (Australians) want to be on the rising side of tidal movements – a euphemism for ‘on the road to advancement and prosperity‘.
It is not clear that we do want (to be on the rising side of tidal movements) just yet, but there are signs that some sectors of our economy and populace are also warming to that idea. It is great to see. And an even greater hope, to be part of it. I wish I could express to you better, just how that makes me feel, for Australia to be on the right side of history for once. It is so rewarding. But it has yet to happen. And the forces which want to cling to the side of the boat which would tend to drag us away from that cheerful goal still wield powerful influence. Can we let them spoil our hopeful future? It must not happen.
China, as part of the growing multipolar (actually multi-nodal, with node equality) movement of sovereign nations working towards a fairer and more secure world, is beckoning Australia to move to closer ties with that noble ethic.
We should (in capitals) listen.

It just makes sense. For me, the warm feelings are right here, right now. For others, it may take some time for those feelings (and even the reasonings) to develop. But develop they will. It just makes sense.
The alternative makes me shudder.
