Albanese Futility – Is He Mad, or Just Poorly Informed?

Far too much attention is being drawn in Australia – as though there are not much more important things to be concerned about than the arrest of criminals by foreign countries – to the case of Oscar Jenkins, an ex-school teacher in Australia who decided it might be interesting to become a mercenary, soldier of fortune, in Ukraine.

Jenkins, who is lucky to still be living at all (such luck having bypassed thousands of such thoughtless prats in the past three years), was captured whilst fighting alongside other Ukrainian military force members last December. Russians obviously found enough evidence to convict him – I do not know on what charges – and slap him with a 13 year hard labour sentence in a Maximum Security Prison – presumably for his own safety (in a more open, general detention facility, he would not last 5 minutes).

Standing rather taller than he really should be just now, Australia’s PM Albanese concocted the crazy scheme to go advocate for his criminal citizen with the nazi leader of the Ukraine, US puppet state, Zelenskiy, in order to arrange for this fool to be included in a future prisoner swap deal with Russia. I can’t imagine what hope he thinks there could be of achieving that.

And of all places, Albanese is said to want that meeting to take place in Rome. Why? Is he hoping for the new US Pope’s support? And I think I heard something about Trump wanting to meet face-to-face with President Putin in Rome also, Possibly at Rubio’s suggestion, for which occasion Zelenskiy might be lurking around, hoping for a hearing. But there is no hope of such a meeting happening there with Putin as a guest, just as there was no expectation of him appearing in Istanbul.

Also, does Albanese not realise that Jenkins is not recognised as a POW? Mercenaries do not have that privilege or protection under which to cover their criminal acts, and can legally be executed on conviction. I suspect a lot of them actually are, summarily, in the field, without trial of any sort. Mercenaries are the scum of the earth and possess no rights at all, if captured alive. But then, I’m sure they all know that.

So, PM Albanese’s self-imposed, tax-payer funded, personal crusade, is completely futile. And Jenkins will enjoy a long daily grind of hard work with plenty of time to consider why he is there. Although from every image of the man I have seen, he may not have much capacity to think at all, given his situation and all he has seen in the recent past. Judging by his unfocused gaze, for him the lights may have already gone out.
