It is a truism that wherever the US sets foot, poverty and chaos ensues. And it is well known that the US long ago set foot in Australia. Are we coping, with such a handicap bearing down on us?
First take a look at this recent view of the AUKUS debacle…
‘Dotty and Cretinous: Reviewing AUKUS’ – Dr Binoy Kampmark – Countercurrents – April 20, 2025

I’m not sure I need say any more on that subject, which pretty much covers my own long-term view of the matter. Let’s look, for a few minutes, at that ‘future of poverty and chaos’ which awaits us. If you are sensitive to such things, you may already be feeling some of that. And it is not difficult to imagine where it will lead.
Poverty is an emotive subject, and not something Australians have ever really needed to consider. Leaving aside the inherent poverty which is an assured reality simply by being a ‘friend’ of the US, is there any possibility that Australia would need to face such a situation otherwise, if it were not for the AUKUS arrangement? Well, for decades now, until very recent times, Australia has been a leading economy among Western nations. Faring well even through the dubious pandemic forced on us four to five years back. Things changed rather suddenly after AUKUS was formed, though not necessarily due to that decision. Could we perhaps right that imbalance with another A$368 Billion to spend over coming decades (and potentially much more of a windfall with inevitable cost blowouts), while gaining potentially nothing for that expenditure? Well, that would help, a good deal more than four submarines which may never show up (and would create a waste problem if they do). The eyes water at the prospect. And we have the stuff beneath our feet, which the world markets readily need for their own progress, at prices equitable to ensure that as a benefit to all. Not just for virtually free supply to US Robber Barons.
But, leaving the cost factors also aside, do we want to become a slum colony much like current existence in many of the US’ own major cities? Have you seen that? Do you know what that is like? Their own people, barely subsisting in tent cities, on the fringes of those metropoles for the rich, the politicians, and other lower elements of society.
There is a lot of information on homelessness all across the US but I wanted to show you this video in particular. I don’t know who this character is, but he delivers an honest view of the situation. You may be shocked, but answer me – and yourself – this… Is this what you want Australia to become?
That video is two years old and shows Biden’s America. But you can be sure that nothing has materially changed under Trump. In fact I think there is a realisation growing in that country that they are on the way down, and out, and there is nothing they can now do about it. Trump’s desperate actions just reflect that position and a desire to take as much of the world as they can, down with them. We do not need to be part of that.
If this causes you to shudder at all over such a prospect, then we need to do something to get ourselves out from under the heel of the US. There are much better friends we could reach out to. The West is finished as a world power. Let it become the world slum. We Australians do not need to participate in that.
China and Russia come to mind as already established good friends to many countries who formerly struggled under Western oppression. Even Indonesia, our nearest neighbour, has seen that prospect coming to fruition. They will benefit greatly from such a cooperation. We Australians could do that too. Regionally, we are well placed to join the winning side. And allow our resources to be used for good in the world, benefiting ourselves and those who more deserve it.
You never know, we may have to move ourselves yet, as the world grows colder, climate-wise in the future. Better to have established friends we can turn to in those times.
