China is so Laid Back. US is always so Uptight and Stiff Backed. How can they possibly ever get along together?

A section in this Global Times article sums it up perfectly.

‘Contribution to the world’ vs ‘America First’

There is a huge gulf in attitudes between these opposites in outlook. How can that ever be resolved?

It is the difference between ‘Service’ and ‘Selfishness’, ‘Openness’ and ‘Domination’, ‘Friendship’ and ‘Bullying’, ‘Right Attitude’ and ‘Wrong Attitude’. How can such vast differences ever possibly conjoin? Or the divisions coexist?

The simple answer to all these questions is, they can’t. And even if you tortuously went through a hive of long logical discussion, reasoning and argument, the answer still would be, they can’t.

So, what to do?

Well, obviously this is not something, encompassing the world stage as it does, which could be resolved here in some minor blog post. But, can we save ourselves a whole heap of effort by acknowledging the impossibility of the situation, no matter the willingness of the one party to engage in that process as a long term struggle and the unwillingness of the other party to budge from its stated position, by saying from the start – there is no answer to that conundrum? While still inter-participating in dealings of one kind or another, where possible or necessary, as well as defending the separateness of existence and without coming to blows or finding a need for destroying each other? Will a divided world ever succeed, or prosper or grow?

Well, that is exactly what we have done, and far beyond the limits of these two particular nation states, for centuries now, as the modern world has unfolded through a turbulent history up to this point in time. And in that time there have been periods where differences did come to blows, as chiefly the beliggerant, stiff-backed side lost patience and struck out in anger. None of which episodes ever resolved anything noteworthy. And, in today’s world could have resulted in the end of all things.

Are we left then with an impasse for which we lack capability to bring to a satisfactory conclusion? And can we live with that, forever hanging over our heads?

The fact that I obviously see this as being the fault of one side more than the other, would be indicative of the point of view of most human individuals. Or of those who care, anyway. No matter which side you choose.

Sides. Sides. Why does there always have to be sides?
