I should say here, as a disclaimer, that I do not celebrate ‘Christmas’ in any way, shape or form (although it is very difficult to shift the memories into the bottomless bin at this time of the year – even after so many have passed). So what I said above is simply a thought bubble wish list having no particular basis. Just that it somehow needs to get done. And if we all wish together, maybe somehow it will happen.
Yes, yes, yes, I know it will take more than wishes to get rid of the demons afflicting the world, but maybe all it needs is a few nuclear missiles, on a few select spots, for folk of common sense to get the message and to shut it down for ever.
I’m thinking, and hoping, not wishing (that was just part of the thought bubble), that Russia – and maybe a few friends – will eventually be driven to conclude this is the only way for the world to really know lasting peace – whatever the cost. And there would be a cost, of course. But sometimes the loss (and I do not share the view that it would be world-ending loss) is worth the price of obtaining something better. Something, enduring. Something from which new life can grow.
Such things, such sacrifices, happen all the time. All it takes is a little heroics, some grit, and a whole lot of resolve. I know that Russia, and others, possess all of that – in abundance.
Anyway, back to the present. This is what kicked off this particular reverie, and persuaded me to express my heart’s desire…

Surely the world has had enough of NATO for many lifetimes to come?
