What The World Needs Now Is…

Yes, of course, as The Supremes sang in the 1960s, it is ‘…Love, Sweet Love’. Well, the world has moved on, and now, has ‘everything’, when compared to back then. But where is the Love? It is still ‘the only thing there is far too little of‘.

The world has moved on and in the midst of possessing everything that money can buy, love has, it appears, lost out to ‘stuff’. ‘Stuff’ which fades and fails and has always never quite met the inner needs of humanity. So, what is it that the world really needs? I will venture to say that it is clarity.

We know, or think we know, everything there is to know about all the important things that constitute life and living, And yet, in a world where all knowledge allegedly abounds, we are helpless to know just where we stand. Or where, in fact, we are going. This allows us to be manipulated by charlatans, with an eye only to doing what benefits themselves. There are exceptions of course, but largely, and especially among the white races, such charlatans predominate. How can that be, when we have all knowledge now at our fingertips? How have we been deceived? How have we been led to believe that we now live in a world that is our enemy, and which we need to subdue and mold to better fit our way of life (which has also already been molded by the charlatans to become an immense struggle just to keep plodding on against the odds increasingly arrayed against us)?

Can we not muster up the mental capacity and clarity to seek and find our way out of this apparently impossible impasse?

Of course we can. If we can separate ourselves from it for a while and gain the necessary perspective to enable that recognition. If we remain trapped in that world, for ever dazzled by its aura, we will never see that. So, step outside for a while, and take a good look at it.

And the world of course still needs love. And love is not dead. Far from it. It still shines from the hearts of certain leaders of men, like President Xi of China, who reaches out far beyond his own countrymen, by whom he has already done the right thing, to those of other nations in need of loving. Do not for a moment belittle that, or ascribe it to lesser motives from your own possibly limited and clouded vision. President Putin of Russia too is similarly driven to help build a world of equanimity and fairness. The two make good partners in this endeavour. They are not alone of course. It is a sad thing that nothing like that, or even imitating it, can be found among western leaders. Where is love in the west today? It has, I’m afraid, been replaced by something sordid and distasteful. Can that change? I don’t know.

We are not living in a world that has boiling oceans and growing deserts, where life becomes impossible unless we are prepared to do certain things. That is just part of the deception. See beyond all that.

The reality is just the opposite of that. But of course we do not have the clarity of vision to realise that is the case. We have all the data to give us that clarity, but are unwilling to research it. This is not the case for the whole world of course. Some have pierced or escaped from that trap, but no-one to my knowledge has taken the necessary step to gain the needed clarity around what is real. So, there may be no hope at all – we just don’t know, until we take that step.

What am I talking about?

Well, if we do not live in a world that will become too hot for life to exist in unless we make certain sacrifices which benefit only certain individuals or enterprises, then what is the reality? Is it going to be a world that is too cold for life to exist in instead? We just don’t know, at this point. Why?

The truth is, neither of those things has ever been the case for our home planet. There has always in the past (according to science – and I have no reason to doubt that) been places on Earth – mainly between the tropics – where mankind can exist, even at extremes of heat and cold. The planet has always (as far as we can ascertain – which is, with any degree of reliability, around half a billion years – anything beyond that being mostly the kind of conjecture necessary to produce the ‘fog’ which keeps our vision unclear) operated within certain temperature bounds. Other measures too of course have their own boundaries, but let’s just take temperature for now. Those temperature bounds have been found to be within a top range of around 30C, bottoming at around 10C of average surface temperatures for the whole planet. Certain places on the planet are often much hotter or colder than that of course, but an average or mean temperature provides us with an overall understanding. Temperatures within 30C and 10C is a fairly narrow band which at its extremes may not be the most comfortable for some, but is liveable. So, the bottom line is that we are always guaranteed to have somewhere to live – depending on how many of us there are of course, where temperatures are reasonably comfortable. We need that as a given, and I think it is quite undeniably true. If it were not true, there would have been no ‘out of Africa’ migrations into less temperate climes, as conditions permitted.

But we don’t know exactly where we stand, temperature-wise right now. And nobody, to my knowledge has bothered to work that out. We do know certain things. Here’s what we know…

  • The world is cooling – and has been for millions of years. Science knows. Scientists agree.
  • We have all the data to prove that fact. Carefully researched and recorded by science.
  • The data we have, fairly reliably covers, the past 500,000,000 years (half a billion).
  • Science plots that data, using a 500,000 year moving average to produce charts to meaningfully display that data, while ensuring that any bumps and weak areas of data coverage over that vast amount of time, do not detract from an understandable overall picture.
  • On another level, the nature of a moving average based on such a long trend means it can tell us nothing about how the most recent 250,000 years of data is trending.
  • This leaves us with only the annual global trend data as our sole guide as to what is happening over that most recent 250,000 years. Meaning that we have no clear and precise view as to what the long-term trend may be, in relation to our own time.
  • This leads us subject to the manipulations of fanatics and charlatans who take short sections of short-term data to convince us into believing that we are either about to burn or freeze – both of which have been used at various times and neither of which bears any resemblance to the truth.

So, what do we do about that?

Well, if we have a trained eye, we can judge where the bulk of that plotted annual mean data lays – either above or below the last plotted long-term mean value from 250,000 years ago. Imprecise, but valuable to see whether the long-term trend continues virtually unchanged or possibly going higher or lower than before.

But we can do better than that. I have mentioned this, in fact I have mentioned all these things, in a previous essay, but it bears repeating (unless nobody actually reads this stuff or nobody cares to comment or question it). The whole purpose of a moving average over time-series data, is to smooth out peaks and troughs while retaining the essence of the data. To gain more clarity we can shorten the periodicity of the time being averaged. This will produce a more bumpy line on a chart but still with less variability than the base data (which, in our case, is also averaged for annual global figures).

I’m not going to suggest what would produce the best clarity, I will leave that to the scientists and statisticians, having been out of that kind of work for more years than I care to remember. But I reckon that extended trend line is pretty much static or, if anything, is still slowly descending. Which is why I have earlier said the cooling has not yet bottomed out. But see for yourself in this image below, where the long-term trend line is shown as a pale blue line.

Clarity is all we need to gain a little more perspective. Plus a little more love, all around.

A typical western pseudo Christian meme of creatures telling their supposed creator what he needs to know and do. Nice song though, apart from that …and typical Bacharach.
