That is not a difficult question and I think it is expressed quite clearly in this quote from the TASS report linked below…
“We have to demonstrate our determination and our belief in the possibility of building this new world with common efforts of countries interested in protection of their sovereignty, interested in equality, interested in fair, open and equal cooperation.”
…that, from Rinat Alyautdinov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO. And you will notice no reference to political issues or specific ideologies, such as ‘democracy’. It doesn’t matter to the BRICS partners what a country’s political or ideological preferences – or even religious preferences – may be. As long as they meet the other levels of understanding mentioned in the above quote. All nations should be able, and hopefully willing to share their future as part of such a group ethos. It is the only way the world can free itself from the degraded philosophies of the western nations – where some muddled definitions of the ‘democracy’ label – which few of them follow in any detail anyway – are held to be sacrosanct and eventually mandatory for all nations to follow under the west’s very own, and very malleable, ‘rule of law’.
Little wonder that an awakening world is pulling away from the west and drifting toward something else which, even though it is not yet fully defined or organised – a work in progress, and at just the right time – has the appearance of being, or becoming, a veritable haven for a world thoroughly sick of the western concept of constant war and humiliation of and against everything which is not ‘Them’.

It is a good feeling I have – you too, I hope – that our world is set to be liberated, actually to free itself, from the awful mess created over the past several centuries by those who had not, and still have not, the right to have done and continue pressing to do the injustices they, by might of arms, have inflicted on a world not in a position to oppose them. Well, that has all changed since the beginning of the current century.
This is the century of global liberation from western influence and power, as the nations of what we know of as the ‘Global South’ or, more accurately, the ‘Global Majority’, rise in stature as the west itself sinks into its own sunset – never to rise and trouble the world again. Outcast and withering, if that is what happens, only by their own stubbornness, driven by an unwillingness to acknowledge their own mere equality with others, in a shared family of mankind.
It is a really good feeling that this is shaping up as a real movement. A solid and cohesive, people centric movement, with utterly sound and principled goals. Leading to the possibility of a bright future ahead for mankind.
The prospect gives me good cause to hope once more.
