Here’s Another Thought…

The people of Moldova deserve an opportunity to have their voice heard. Well, actually, so do all the people of all nations in the European mainland, North America and elsewhere, but for most of them there is little chance of that happening. Democracy? Pfft! I shit on democracy …well, I would if I could find it anywhere in the world. Actually, no, I wouldn’t. Because that would be the real thing – if it existed. But I do shit on the fake shit which passes for democracy, everywhere – especially in the west.

Ok. I’m happy with that description. Now, on to my other thought…

Having come to a near victory in the recent presidential and EU membership election – a result which I believe is still to be contested in the nation’s courts – that near result achieved by the opposition parties joining together to combat the west leaning ruling party by offering only a single candidate for the contest, the Moldovan people may have access to yet another and perhaps more important similar opportunity (to remove that ruling party for a more reasonable and trustworthy one) in the form of upcoming Parliamentary elections to be held next year (2025).

A number of obstacles, of course, stand in the way of that. But an opportunity such as this presents, should not be missed. Even if it entails some difficult work. And especially since the recent close result (defeat avoided perchance only by shady western style means – a growing problem in western lands) displayed the country’s desire for change at this critical moment in time.

The ruling party knows this full well, and is beginning to panic. Read about it in this TASS article…

‘Gagauzian public figure sees possibility of early parliamentary polls in Moldova’ – TASS – November 15, 2024

So, we can assume this is a real situation. Can the Moldovan people join together once again to make their voice heard and obtain the government they desire?

What needs to be done? I admit I do not know all the necessary details, but I can suggest a few things at this stage. I’m sure some move will be made and the situation made clearer soon.

The TASS article suggests the ruling party may be setting themselves up for an early election to thwart any opposition moves. So the opposition must move fast. Perhaps they need to unite again, this time by forming a new party as a single focused opponent to cross the line ahead of the governing party. This potentially difficult task may also be unnecessary, but I am not familiar with the election rules in Moldova. If, to form government, a party needs more than 50% of the vote to do so, then all the opposition has to do (maybe) is to prevent that from happening and then to form a coalition government among themselves (maybe). That’s the easy way. Forming a single new opposition party would be the hard way, but perhaps more effective. It all depends on how much they can generate public interest and what is actually possible to achieve in the potentially short time available.

Then again, if the presidential election result is overthrown (and I’m not sure what the timeframe for such a legal decision might be), that could tip the scales either way on this new opportunity.

It is a very interesting and quite important situation for that whole surrounding region.
