Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, continues his unleashed or, probably more correct, long-leashed role as the nation’s ‘diplomatic’ attack dog. I think I mixed my metaphors a bit there since it is cats who generally get the cream. Whatever. Anyway, I’m sure he is enjoying immensely the freedoms his not necessarily ‘diplomatic’ role offer, and I usually find myself agreeing with and applauding what he says most of the time. The linked TASS report below is no exception.
‘Medvedev warns against expecting too much from US presidential election’ – TASS – November 3, 2024
Personally, I am not expecting anything from the US election taking place in a few days. Like pretty much all elections for leadership positions in all western states, it is simply a facade, a show – or even a side show – given the side-lined role proscribed (in all the fullness of that word’s meaning) for western nations on the world stage these days (all their own fault of course).
“He,” – Donald Trump – “will not be able to end the war, not in one day, or in three days, or even in three months,” Medvedev is reported as saying. Of course he won’t. There is not even a remote chance of that. The war, referring to what is currently going on in Ukraine (which Russia has not yet even acknowledged as being a ‘war’ – although we must be only a step or two from reaching that position), can only be stopped by one man – Vladimir Putin. No other world leader, Donald Trump or otherwise, will get even a say in that decision. And I guess, before that can happen, it will need to progress into a ‘war’. At the moment it remains, officially, as a Russian Special Military Operation and, I think it is fair to say, an operation which has had the effect of virtually emptying the munitions and other hardware of war stocks in all western military warehouses. I doubt that effect was planned, but it has come about purely as a result of western military – actually political – decisions. Russia is not short of anything. Its economy riding high on the turbulent waves which are, quite visibly now, sinking the western nations, en masse. So, once again, they have done this to themselves.
Well actually, Donald Trump, together with all western leaders (including Zelensky) – acting together (is that even possible) – do have one chance or opportunity to end all the mayhem, death and destruction in Ukraine. The many partitioned one thing which could bring that about, is for the west (as a whole) to meet all Russia’s demands. Which form a solid and unchangeable basis – since expanded, due to what has subsequently transpired – which was laid out in a document presented to the west for agreement in December of 2021. Western agreement to those immutable conditions, whether back then or right now, is of course as unlikely to occur as the Moon turning to cheese in the layered colours of the Russian flag.
So, the single chance is really no chance at all. Meaning the ‘war’ will go on until Russia has achieved all of its goals and demands, in full – no negotiation – by other means than the originally conceived diplomacy. I reckon Dmitry Medvedev would agree with me on that. He has said as much several times already. And while the west thinks President Putin may waver on that, I am convinced he remains as committed to the position as he ever was. He is a person who does not need to be continually repeating his position. The west of course judges everyone by their own morally corrupt standards.
I doubt that being equally unable to ‘stop the war’, Donald Trump will prove totally incapable of preventing either the fall of his own country’s benighted economy or of assisting that of any other. It is a crumbling cliff edge the west is walking along just now. And please tell me, whisper in my ear, whose fault is that?
