There Is Another World

If you, like me, are a citizen of a western nation, any western nation, it is likely that your world is coloured and, in fact, pretty much enclosed by images, long ingrained in your perception, of western culture, western thought, and western standards. But, I’m here to tell you – there is another world out there – and it is much bigger and becoming much more vibrant – and relevant – than the restrictive world that you know and perhaps consider to be the ‘gold standard’ for human society, having lived and absorbed those things from whatever part, short or long, of the life you have lived so far.

I began this entry with the idea of showcasing the city of Kazan, Russia, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is to host, in a week or so from today, the 2024 BRICS Summit. But on the way to a video of that I came across this one, giving a more general appraisal of what BRICS is about. This is from a YouTube channel called ThinkBRICS which I think has no official standing with either the BRICS organisation or its media outlet TV BRICS (English), but it does have an interesting outline of what BRICS is about (~14 mins).

The video dialog all seems a bit rushed and therefore less professional than might be expected, but that may be due to the language. Russian translations to English always appear to be rushed – something not exclusive to translations from Russian. Perhaps I should explain further. The video dialog is in English but the same background film footage is used for all language versions, and presumably optimised for Russian. The problem is universal to global events.

This video is about KAZAN today, or more accurately several months ago. Neither video is a recent issue. But, with the imminent newsworthiness of the KAZAN scene – which will probably be largely embargoed by western media, except perhaps to downplay or distort its importance in world events this year, it is I think crucial to news-starved (real news, that is) western viewers to have some idea and relevant background on the nature of this event. Search ‘BRICS Kazan Summit’ for more. I assure you it is all relevant to your own future.
