Let’s get serious for a moment shall we? We can LoL later about the droll responses among western prominent persons to the latest peace pronouncements by Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
First let it be said that Putins remarks during a speech to senior Russian Foreign Ministry personnel a day or so ago represent no change to his demands of December 2021. He just finds a different way of phrasing them just in case some westerner’s brain might finally click onto what it all means. I’m sure they have very little idea of that in their jumbled minds. And in any case, those statements are explicitly said to be only a starting point to detailed demands. Nothing has changed.
Then, let’s be clear, it matters absolutely nothing how Zelensky reacts. He has no further say in the matter, being now illegitimate (gotta love that word). The same goes for all those in the west (including NATO and the EU) who think they can also make demands on Russia, for anything. None of them will even be heard during the peace process, and none of them, I suspect, will be invited to be present. This will be just between Russia and whoever steps up legitimately for Ukraine, which can only be (unless sufficient time elapses for new presidential elections to be held and decided) the leader of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine Parliament), as I understand the situation. No-one else qualifies to be involved. So the upcoming Peace Conference in Switzerland means entirely nothing. A complete waste of time.
So, now you know all that needs to be known about bringing about peace on Russia’s borders.
Of course, I doubt it will be that simple, unless the world is very lucky, but that all depends on the decisions of the Ukraine Parliament – who are even now in discussion on Russia’s plan. They at least, for now, demonstrate a rational attitude to the problem. That is a good sign. And it must not be forgotten that these are the people who were ready to sign a very similar agreement with Russia just two years ago – before the West dug their claws in. And I doubt there is any Ukraine Parliamentary Deputy who is not aware they should avoid any contact with the creepy, crawly, slimy slugs, infesting the swamp of western diplomacy promotion. For today at least, this is beginning to look hopeful. And I do not doubt for one minute Russia’s ability to keep the west from interfering in any other way. But in the end it is down to the Ukrainians. Surely they have lost more than enough now to firm up their minds on the only right decision to be made.
