New Evidence of Approaching Ice Age?

I have written before on the subject of the constant and also non-periodic but natural releases and the relationships between Methane and Carbon Dioxide gases. The impression I always want to give with such discussions is that there is nothing that humans need to worry about from such matters. This is of course entirely contrary to the modern media inspired panic induced into human society in recent decades. But not contrary the views of the scientific community, many of whom, last year, reissued their World Climate Declaration, originally published in 2019, to reassure the peoples of the world that there is no such thing as a current climate emergency. But, of course, those with the loudest voices, the megaphones, and ownership of the world’s media, get all the attention.

Yesterday I came across the video below from the stable of scientific videos put together by Dr Ben Miles. Now, I realise that, for me, he is not entirely to be trusted – he seems to be ‘in it’ mostly for the money and personal exposure (his videos carry ads promoting his own interests) – at least that is the impression I built from his talk, but he seems to mostly agree with what I have previously said and he points out something on which I had no previous information. I may have been slightly over-critical here, since he is obviously an advanced and learned scientist, but first opinions do matter, and usually tend to linger. If you are a millennial you will probably love him. Watch the video first and decide for yourself…

He speaks of the natural nature (Oh dear! I used a tautology. Never mind) of the causes mostly given to climate change and indeed the same climate cycles which I have laboured to point out over the past year, attributing little of the overall effect to human activity. And he notes something I had missed. Beginning around 2006, there has been an increased amount of release of methane gas into Earth’s atmosphere, at levels which are unaccountable – and certainly not of man’s doing. He is honest enough to say that the reasons for this release are currently unknown.

I can suggest a likely cause. We are now approaching, at, or perhaps even just beyond, the peak of the heating period of the global mini-cycle of climate temperature (and other parameter) oscillations, within the overall trend of planetary cooling that has been ongoing for many tens or hundreds of millions of years. Does it not strike you then that during this brief period of peak heating (repeated many times before, on a periodicity of around a hundred thousand years), non-normal things may occur which may not be seen at any other time in those cycles? Is it not possible that at these times the surface layers of the planet may have gradually heated and at some point (2006?) became unable to hold on to its trapped natural component of methane gas? And was subsequently required to release it? Well, while not possible to occur ‘normally’ under other conditions, except such as external (meteoric or cometary impact) or internal (earth tremors or volcanic activity) forcings, such events are entirely plausible as causes for what we are now witnessing. And there have been instances in the past where those 100,000 year cycles have been broken by perhaps otherwise unknown and less robust temporary temperature rises. And this particular instance is occurring as part of, and an intrinsic part of the current peak heating event. Can’t Dr Miles and his contemporaries see that? One thing is for sure, there is no room in any of this discussion for the feeble activities of men to play or to have played, any meaningful part.

And so, this newly recognised methane event, while interesting, is most definitely not cause to believe the current heating event will immediately presage a new ice-age. A new ice-age is already built in but not scheduled, normally, to occur for another hundred thousand years. Though the path toward that event will undoubtedly grow gradually more and more uncomfortably cold for our descendants to endure as time marches on.

I think I will leave this there, having intended to say much more about new chart based evidence I now have, to explain further what the changes we are witnessing are all about. And since there is nothing to worry about in the short to medium term that would effect any of the lives being lived today, that can wait, while we deal with other things which may be of more immediate concern to humanity, unrelated to climate.
