Too little, too late?
For what? To save the world? To save the penguins? To save humanity? To save liberal democracy? Only one of those things is facing any risk at all right now. And it is the last listed. Not that it has any real value, anyway.

Here’s my take. And all these questions are not an invitation to comment, although you are always welcome to do that. But be aware that I can give an icy tongue-lashing to any perceived wrongful idea you may wish to propose (or due praise in response to anything useful).
Of course liberal democracy is on trial today, as liberal-democratarians have just – somewhat belatedly, realised. And so it should be and, should have been, long ago. Has it ever worked – to the observable benefit of its governed masses? Or has it always worked only for its ruling classes? And chiefly only for its moneyed minorities. I have my own views on that, but I will not state them here as it would be a distraction to what I do want to say.
And, why is this being linked to climate change, that so monstrously distorted natural progression between extremes as laid down at the beginning of time for Earth’s passage around a travelling star system wandering its own path around an immense galaxy full of such moving systems, within a colossal, in fact immeasurable, universe? I will tell you why. Because mankind, with its limited view of all that goes on within that vast arena, and due to its worthless achievements and attempts (successful or not) to control and manipulate (and possibly destroy) its own planetary environment (a small blue dot, isolated and alone within that immensity), has elevated its own position – mainly only within its own limited mental capacity as a synthetically created creature, to a point where it (humanity) believes itself to be in charge and in control of all of that grand natural construction. It is Lesson No. 1 that mankind must be dis-illusioned (illusion freed) from that self-styled position, before it (humanity) can become a stabilised entity, forming a non-important functionary role within and harmonising with the whole complex system.
However, having said all that, we would in all probability not have the knowledge to understand our current position if we had not pursued the path to knowledge which has brought us to this point in our natural, but externally augmented, evolution. So, I think we can say that the knowledge we have is what we have been permitted to be taught or rediscover – of our past, our present, of our physical reality, and of our real place within the universe. It is being left to us, collectively, to decide where we go from here. Onward, blindly pursuing a false destiny of controlling more than we can possibly manage, to a potential destruction – of ourselves and our home – or to accept our role as members of the community of life, living together in harmony and in contemplation of our successes, improving and expanding our personal growth and attitudes to nature and life, while patiently waiting for some opening or invitation (which may never come) to a potential more expansive role in the galaxy/universe, but always content with who we are and what we have.
Hmm… I didn’t expect to be writing that. And I still haven’t said what I thought I would say, which would have been quite divisive – though I believe true – about our attitude to climate change and the future of western liberal democracy in a world so obviously now changing to accept something better and much more cooperative and successful for all than that could ever be.
Liberal democracy is (or is about to be) finished. Human reaction and attitude to climate change is so dangerous and damaging, it would be better if we do nothing now in pursuit of a net-zero goal and stop pretending we are actually doing anything to save a world which is in no need of being saved. Instead we need to realise there are no existential needs which require our action in that regard, and study what is the real position. That ‘real position’ is what I have been talking about now for almost one year. Look back in these pages.
