Quality Writing Explains: Democracy, the west, the Global South, and Africa

I don’t read Journal NEO very often these days, not because of the quality of the articles to be found there, but more to do with the timing. Quality of course does not come with haste, but what I am interested in these days is ‘hot’ news (mostly), published, preferably, the same day it happens. Because important things are happening fast, usually daily, now, and in order to keep abreast of the times one has to ingest mostly only the most recent reports. This is not to say that well considered writing does not also have its place (usually, when time permits).

And so it was, that I read this evening a fine NEO article, published just over a week ago on democracy, the west, the Global South, but mainly Africa, which, if you have your ear to the ground you will already know that great changes are being undergone there. Most of the article covers aspects of that subject area already generally known, I suspect. But when I came to the final paragraph, I had to pause and take a deep breath. I have seldom, if ever, seen this explained and, in a nutshell (that means ‘concisely’), illustrate the whole complex situation any better than this does. See for yourself…

“The world has definitely changed. And will continue to evolve, complement and strengthen – within the framework of the multipolarity processes. The few “gifts” from the Western establishment to try to save at least something, including by claiming to engage in a kind of dialogue with the Global South, will not be able to deceive the world majority and interrupt the process of decline of the tiny space called the West. As for true popular democracy, today many African countries could very well offer their skills to those who constantly talk about democracy, but who in no way correspond to the democratic values to which they claim to belong. However, let us be honest – why waste precious time on those who have no plans to change and who, in the end, are simply doomed to oblivion?” – A quote from ‘True popular democracy is certainly not in the West, nor among its satellites’ by Mikhail Gamandiy-Egorov on JournalNEO – May 25, 2024
