I’m Very Concerned That Climate Change Is Still Being Abused By Idiots Who Think They Are Scientists

Ok, by saying that, I realise I am opening myself up for the same criticism, because I am not a scientist, but I do have a voice, a brain, and I am not dumb or even someone who does not think a lot about what he is saying. And I definitely do not accept what scientists (or doctors, or pretty much anyone in authority) try to pass off as true to the general public. Some of us at least are not fools. We haven’t eaten their toxic-pseudo-food, taken their fake jabs and meds, or listen to their damned media lies. And we don’t get our news from Facebook.

It is quite concerning that some imaginary force, which has been labelled ‘Climate Catastrophe’ is still spread through manufactured lies aimed at an unsuspecting, far too trusting, but listlessly uninterested public. Most of the salient points used by the climate catastrophist lobby, while based loosely on perfectly normal climate activity – blown out of all proportion, deliberately and only for dramatic effect – is mainly provable nonsense or, at worst, outright lies built around incorrect or misleading assumptions. And I can easily spot and talk about those.

Some time ago, quite recently, I pulled apart (tiring part way through and sickened by the garbage I was witnessing) an article from Robert Hunziker (a journalist – not a scientist). I let his next one go by without comment as I was engaged in something more important, but here he is again and still exhibiting rarified nonsense. I cannot let this pass unmolested. You need to read this article below, in order to understand what I will say about it, but try not to let it make you ill.

Permafrost Showdown – Robert Hunziker – CounterPunch – May 17, 2024

Hunziker is basically advertising a video about the thawing, due to heat, of large portions of the Earth’s permafrost which covers many areas of the planet’s northern hemisphere, and catastrophically allowing huge releases of currently trapped methane gas from the softened ground or seabed into the atmosphere. I once also believed this guff, some years ago, but I didn’t know back then what I do know now. I will endeavour to pass some of that knowledge on to you. If you are interested.

This is a brief recap of climate history: Apart from the Greenland ice-cap, this Permafrost (look it up if you are not sure) is most of what remains of the freezing effect of the planet’s most recent continuous cooling over the last 50 million years. All of the northern ice-sheets – and presumably the permafrost also – formed from a bit more than 10 million years ago down to about 6 million years ago, starting when the planet’s average global temperature fell (for the first time in many millions of years) below around 18°C. Most of the ice (except Greenland ice-sheet) dissipated due to extraterrestrial events between thousands and tens of thousands of years ago. Logically, the permafrost would have formed under the ice, before it disappeared. In other words it has also been there, in place, for several millions of years and only in the last several thousands (or tens of thousands) has it been uncovered and subjected to potential thawing. Luckily, the Earth has been steadily falling in temperature over those years, from the 18°C I mentioned, to a low of under 12°C. Now, for a brief period, which is now almost over, and due to the temporary rises and falls around the general falling trend, that average temperature has gradually risen to around 14.7°C over the past 12 thousand years. It is therefore not surprising to see a certain amount of thawing of areas of permafrost, is it? I will demonstrate to you why this is not a problem and can certainly not be labelled as catastrophic.

Firstly, to cement in your mind what I have said so far, I am going to reuse an image I have included several times in such posts as this one, for reference to what I am saying. How could anyone of sound mind fail to see that the planet is, and has been for the past 50 million years (longer in fact), in a period where the general temperature trend (the red line) is one of constant cooling. The occasional bumps are fully explainable by known natural events. There are lots of things I could say about this chart but I do not want to digress.

Climate alarmists like to use big numbers to frighten or bemuse their intended audience. Sometimes numbers need to be really big, in order to provide perspective. Here are two examples. The first from Britannica – How Much Does Earth’s Atmosphere Weigh?

The total mass of Earth’s atmosphere is about 5.5 quadrillion tons, or roughly one millionth of Earth’s mass

Then, from Hunziker’s promoted video. Source: The Royal Society…

50 billion tons of methane could enter the atmosphere from Siberian lakes alone

Ok, let’s take those two facts as a starting point. Big, impressive numbers, hmm? But let’s break this down a bit…

What is 50,000,000,000 (50 billion) divided by 5,500,000,000,000,000 (5.5 quadrillion)? It is 0.0000091 and, as a percentage, that is 0.00091%. So the permafrost released methane represents 0.00091% of the total atmosphere of the planet. Doesn’t sound like much now does it? Here’s a question from me…

What is the current (normal) percentage of methane in the atmosphere? It is 0.000170%

An infinitesimal amount, wouldn’t you say? So, what is the actual change? Now, I am going to add the two percentages together, knowing this is a worst case – given the parameters – and not a real-world scenario. This would likely be happening in other areas of the globe, but none of it would be instant. Thawing and release of the gas would take place over months, years, or perhaps even decades or centuries. So, if we take this number as indicative of perhaps global proportions, knowing that, over time, the released methane dissipates and changes to CO2, what is the maximum resultant change?

0.000170% + 0.000910% = 0.001080%

Now look at this table of gases making up the atmosphere…

All of the gases listed below Nitrogen and Oxygen, together make up less than 1 percent of all of the atmosphere and Methane is third lowest. In our scenario of worst case methane release, methane would jump up one place to be between Neon and Helium but would still be in that thin sliver of the gas pie which represents less than 1% of the atmosphere. And just for the sake of argument, this situation can never actually happen. Where do you think the normal 0.000170% of atmospheric methane came from? Isn’t it obvious? There is one reason for all those gases forming the air that we breathe. And it is the same reason for all of them. They are the product of natural sources. They are all produced by Earth processes. Natural Earth processes. And that is nothing to do with us or what we do. The atmosphere has been the same, within the boundaries of natural change and fluctuation for hundreds of millions of years. And some of the methane (and I’m sure this is true of other gases) are as a result of Earth breathing in its own rhythms, sometimes releasing methane, sometimes not. Nothing to do with us or our animal friends. We have just joined as late-comers to the planetary party. So don’t worry, everything is in balance. More or less.

You will no doubt note that CO2 is also part of that sliver. What the Fuck is the world worrying about? And why aren’t the Hunzikers of the world in jail for spinning fraudulent information?

Need I go on?

Well, it is after 2am where I am so I am going to bed now. I will continue tomorrow, perhaps.
