Taliban Views

I try to write only about the most important of events. I consider this to be a worthy such subject.

If there are two entities operating in the world (there are more than two, but let’s stay focused), on whom are laid highly derogatory and mistaken opinions in some quarters, they would be – The Taliban of Afghanistan, and Russia. Parts of the world, the ‘some quarters‘ I mentioned, hold and promulgate ridiculously negative ideas on both Russia and The Taliban, simply based on their own distorted world view.

Not so, with the two named, both of whom know that it is better for all concerned, to turn enemies into friends. Or at least to treat each other with respect and with a friendly attitude. All the world’s peoples are terrorists, given the opportunity, but none more so than those who impose that name on others (and Russia is just as guilty of that as many nations are – unless there are subtleties of meaning to the term, locally).

The Taliban are basically still a farming community who have turned their hand to governance of a nation. They are not doing a bad job of it either, under the circumstances. And while they cannot be considered each other’s ‘number one friend’, as the TASS article below correctly confides, they are cooperating where they can. The Taliban recognises that even while they were enemies (back in Soviet times), they are grateful for the building which Russia did within their country. That activity obviously bequeathed a standout memory. Russia, equally, has offered certain facilities for inter-group communication, in recent days, while reserving recognition of Taliban governance to a later time.

The TASS article below, provides a rather piquant point of view (actually it is unclear to me, from the text, just who said this, but I assume it would have been, at least partly, a Taliban representative) in the saying –

“…the Americans have watches but we have time. Now Russia has both watches and time”
