A Victory, Of Sorts – Yet To Reach Fulfillment

Well, it is an actual victory – or ‘Pobeda’ in Russian (is it the same word in Moldovan?) – in that it has even actually materialised. Who would have thought it could?

What am I talking about? What!! You haven’t heard? You should read TASS more frequently. It is reported in this story…

‘Moldovan opposition announces creation of Pobeda political bloc’ – TASS – April 21, 2024

Basically it means that the Moldovan opposition political parties have joined together under the banner of the Pobeda Political Bloc on a matter of extreme importance to their people – keeping their nation out of the EU. This is of course not what the ruling western leaning Moldovan government wants but is is I believe what the majority of Moldovans desire. This will be tested at the upcoming national elections and a referendum on EU membership in that country. That is set for an Autumn showdown, so there are several months to wait to see how this plays out.

Up to this point, Moldovans have not had a choice among the various smaller opposition parties – none of which could topple the ruling party by themselves. Now, with this move (unprecedented I think in modern history anywhere) the people have a chance to topple the government with a united front.

That could not work of course in many western political systems, most of which operate a mainly two party system which are really a uniparty on such matters. Equally, whether this will work long term in Moldova is really unknown, or even how it will wok in practice. That is not important just now. It just needs to get done. And now is the time. Don’t you think that is remarkable? This could be a turning point in modern politics, could it not?

I don’t have any more details other than what is contained in the TASS story but this is certainly an exciting development. And I think the backbone of the move must possibly be due to the recent stand by the Gagauzia regional government led by Evgenia Gutsul. Congratulations to the ‘Pobedans’ for giving the Moldovan people a real choice for retaining their political freedom and for the opportunity to strike a real blow to western hegemony. Keep an eye on Moldova.

The potential prospects arising from such a ‘victory’ are enormous. When, not if, Odessa and the whole southern region of Ukraine is taken and becomes part of Russia, the Russian garrisoned Transdniestria (a region of Moldova) will enjoy a joint border with that country and Moldovan energy supply will be assured. That would also make things much more comfortable for both Hungary and Serbia – and perhaps much more becomes open to change. The receding west is not going to be happy, but will be helpless to prevent it.
