’15 Minute Living Circles’ -This is the Future …and it is led by China. Who Will Follow?

‘China unveils plan for 15-min “living circles” in cities’ – Xinhuanet – July 12, 2023

All the best ideas seem to emerge from China. I have seen this one officially announced only by that one nation. A nation that is already a world leader in so many ways. Yes, Russia may currently be technologically superior to China (I speak from my own viewpoint of course, which may not be entirely accurate), and it is these two nations (who, incidentally appear willing to share and cooperate together in many directions) forecast to to be among the top world leaders in a multi-polar world where all nations are considered sovereign equals, but I have seen no sign yet of Russia preparing to meet that future in a similar way as the Xi led Chinese are. Russia is of course currently largely occupied in securing the foundations for that new world against the forces of tyranny, so we can forgive them for not looking too far ahead – although they may have plans I do not yet know about, of course. But these two nations, possessing good hearts and congenial intentions to bring about a fairer world, are adequately equipped technologically, ideologically and philosophically, together with all other likeminded (that is fair-minded and non-aggressive) nations to bring that world into being.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw this article this morning. What a great and needful plan – and, believe me, it will prove to be an absolute necessity in future times. I am not aware of all the details of this plan and it may not fulfill all the needs – but it is a start, a beginning. Cities may need to look very different to how they do currently. What do I mean by that? Well, in addition to the supply side being localised (in the most likely of future scenarios), the production side – the growing of food – must also occur within reachable distances, as close to the places people live as possible. The design for that should ideally be incorporated into future planning at the same time.

It should be borne in mind of course, the needs of people of the future may also need to change – perhaps dramatically – to complement capabilities to supply. The concept of supermarkets fed by regional storage facilities is likely to be consigned to the waste-bin of history. In a not inconceivable situation, people may need to move closer to where their food is grown – and they may need to contribute to growing it. Some level of adaptation will undoubtedly be required. It seems that China is taking a first relatively small step in that direction. Who will follow?
