Well, it was meant to be a Ukraine counter offensive against Russian forces occupying what will soon be Russian territory. It’s now a heap of smouldering wrecks and hundreds of dead bodies. Such foolishness defines Ukraine’s leadership (and its NATO mentors).
The title of the related story below (as so many machine translations of Russian to English do), carries an unfortunate error [the word ‘by’ is missing] which gives entirely the wrong impression of the event. Though any translation effort carries a similar inherent risk. Thankfully, the inside story is correctly relayed.

Since there have been no other overnight reports, I assume the massive missile and helicopter strike out of Crimea (see below) had something to do with this mayhem. Is this the last we shall see of Ukraine offensive operations towards the liberated territories? The size of the effort reveals they have nothing much left to play with.

When I saw that report my first thought was that maybe this was the large scale Russian airborne offensive that has been brewing and at which I hinted a few days ago. Now that Ukraine has given the game away that they no longer have means to retaliate, such a Russian offensive may soon follow.
I would like to see that. This has dragged on (mainly through Ukraine stubbornness and unwillingness to capitulate in the face of obvious defeat) for far too long. Although Russia does have the kind of patience to play the long game but, the longer it goes, the more civilians will be needlessly hurt and the more rebuilding required. However, no matter how long it takes, the ultimate goals of the project should never be compromised – by anyone.
