Published today, the eve of his latest visit to China, is an article from President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, titled – Russia and China: A Future-Oriented Strategic Partnership – Source: Xinhua – Editor: huaxia – 2022-02-03
This is not, I hasten to add – before I forget – in any way to be construed as his response to US/NATO responses to his earlier issued sovereign security requirements. Such things are not even mentioned as he has much more important matters to discuss on this visit before he gets around to that. Though I am sure that matters on his country’s western flank may be mentioned as opportunity arises during discussions while he is in China.
I am not featuring the president’s piece in full, though it merits such, being of the impressive quality one would expect from the leader of one of the world’s great nations. Because I want to focus on a single paragraph which caught my attention and which speaks volumes on the good offices and intentions of the Russia-China partnership, along with some others within their circle of working partnership – but not, generally speaking, for those nations in other circles or blocs – not counting the unaligned.
It is this, and I will make no further comment other than to say this is perhaps the most impressively designed and implemented paragraph in a serious document I have ever read…
Certainly, an important part of the visit will be a discussion of relevant international topics. Foreign policy coordination between Russia and China is based on close and coinciding approaches to solving global and regional issues. Our countries play an important stabilizing role in today’s challenging international environment, promoting greater democracy in the system of international relations to make it more equitable and inclusive. We are working together to strengthen the central coordinating role of the United Nations in global affairs and to prevent the international legal system, with the UN Charter at its centre, from being eroded.
