Well, he’s (or should that be “He’s”) gone too far this time. I cannot let this go uncontested.
Flood-tide of Darkness – Kunstler
What a flap-trap of quasi-religious, misogynistic crap he spouts in his latest blog post. We are drowning in a ‘Flood-tide of Darkness’ alright. I have no problem with that. I also have no problem with him claiming that “It was a bad time to be a man standing out…”, but it was also a bad time for a woman to be standing out as well. And the only way either men or women could stand out during this time of flooding currents of chaos, of which he speaks, has been to go against the current, fighting to keep reason and perspective afloat while all others are simply being driven by the torrent of panic. The “shrieking women” no doubt, but also the shrill voices of shrieking men, rending the air, between lung-fulls of roiling flood-tide as they have been tossed about by the will of the tempestuous times. And it will not be just the voices of level-headed men, but also of level-headed women, who call for all of them to “cut it out”.
I also have no problem with Kunstler claiming, as he does, this will not last and one day soon it will be over and a new world, a much smaller world of humanity will drag itself to a devastated shore, littered with the irreparable wreckage of the past. But it will not be a “good start in rediscovering what men are for”. And we must – those of us who make it – never forget that it was ‘men’ who chiefly brought about and built the kind of society the end of which those lucky folk have just witnessed. Never again must men be allowed to take the sole lead in deciding the path which humanity chooses to take thenceforward. Instead, joint, gender-neutral decision making – levelled equally by both men and women – must become the order of the day. Of course even that is not guaranteed to work, but there will never be seen a need to suppress male authority, as has been the case this century and especially in the last decade, because there will be no presiding male authority. That is the one abiding hope for any kind of future for our species. And if any sign of male appeal to dominance is observed, it must be knocked on the head whack-a-mole style by the whole of mankind.
‘Men’ are not destined, nor better equipped to lead, than women, and it is only since those roles were reversed or rendered unequal – chiefly by the coming of obnoxious religion, around two thousand five hundred years ago – and I am talking of the one-god myth – a supposedly male gendered invisible being (how anyone could have even considered that in any way possible, I will never understand). This was never an issue when there were equally male and female gods ruling in the great councils of the gods going back through all human history – including the Israel-Judah history up until their captivity in Babylon in the mid-first millennium BCE where their scribes discovered the ancient libraries of Mesopotamia, copying much of it as their own history (only some 2,500 years ago and forming the basis of the Jewish sacred writings and the Christian Old Testament of the Bible) and at the same time inventing the one god myth. Before that, the vast majority of the Israelite tribes gave allegiance to many gods, both male and female – the same gods as all other nations around that area also followed.
I am not advocating a return to those times, but surely in the aftermath of what we are now experiencing, it is high time to ditch the one male god myth for all time. Equally, and at the same time, ditching all traces of the dominant male ethos. Hopefully, all those who would disagree with that will have perished in the tempest of collapsing society we now, and increasingly, will experience.
In order for a man to be a full man, no man needs to dominate, or lead, anything.
I am going to share two paragraphs from Kunstler’s piece. I warn you that this is pure vomit inducing material. Pure misogyny of the highest order, and truly sickening. I warn you, if this ever comes about as he says, it will be the end of humanity. Read with care.
One thing men are responsible for is bringing order to the world. They don’t always succeed, but it must be their duty to make the effort, and it’s not wise to distract them with histrionics when they attempt to do that, or shame them for trying. You are not excused from your duty in any case, American men. It’s not okay to pretend to be women to escape your duty. The women must not allow the men to hide among them and pretend to be them. They must insist that you be men.
One of your duties as men is to oppose false realities to preserve meaning, and you do that first by insisting on being upright yourself and speaking of things as they really are so that you can do with them what you must do. And this is the meaning of authority, which has been submerged in the flood we’re riding on, this flood of false realities drowning the meaning of everything.
