Under Your Own Direction, Try Letting It Be

Breaking away momentarily from my web persona – which is still actually ‘me’ – I don’t assume another personality when I write, simply for appearances or effect. What you get is the real me, all the time. That is not necessarily what you would see if we were standing face to face, because what you see is not in fact the real ‘me’, just some animal artifact that I inhabit, which is now rapidly aging. But even when I was young and vigourous, what you would have seen then was also not the real me. I can honestly say that I have never identified with it. I have tried, believe me, but no matter how I shaped the hair or what I dressed it in, it never really represented the ‘me’ that I am. That is not to say that I wanted it to be something else, in fact I did quite like it, but always, always, always, recognising that what I looked at in the mirror was not me. And that is why I can always look to something higher than my physical representation, for guidance. I know, that I know, that I am my best guide through life. And my physical self has come to realise that, and to rely on it. We communicate all the time – not literally of course, but frequently and when necessary. My physical self looks after its stuff, mostly without me realising, and I look after the rest. It is a blessed state to live in, and I’m not sure everyone has that. But they could. You could. Fairly easily. It is just a question of first recognising this as fact (this may not be as simple as I make it sound) and then of practice in directing which part of you directs your life (constancy is the key here, until it becomes a natural process). If that life direction comes from your physical self, and goodness knows that is what it wants to do, then you will constantly be seeking advice and companionship from others who do the same, and all of you will never actually feel that you, yourself, are in control. If, however, you train your physical self to seek guidance from, listen to, and follow the directions of your real self, you will achieve more independence and self-reliance in your living.

I will leave it there and you can make of that what you will. I hold no certificates or diplomas that grant me expertise status in these matters. I only have my lived life.

Since I didn’t finish my first sentence – because I got carried away on some other thought – I will start it again.

Breaking away momentarily from my web persona, I want to share with you just now, the lyrics of a song that often comes to mind – as it did today. It may help someone at this moment in time.

The song is The Beatles ‘Let It Be’.

Allow me to make one comment. The ‘Mother Mary’* in the lines can be whatever you want it to be. It would be best of course if that ‘something’ were to be yourself – your real self. You don’t have to try to imagine some divine presence or some great master from your own ancestral heritage or from somewhere out in the universe. You, yourself can be that presence and that master. Allow ‘yourself’ that privilege.

“Let It Be”

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary* comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the broken-hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer
Let it be

For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Yeah, there will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be

And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow
Let it be

I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary* comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
There will be an answer
Let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom
Let it be
