Nothing much of any major significance has happened in Syria in recent days but tomorrow, May 25, could be a day to break that mostly sleepy spell which has been a respite and regathering for all incumbent terrorist forces in the area – as forecast when the Idlib ceasefire came into force – something that never should have happened. These sorts of jobs cannot be left half-done.
So, anyway, now that Easter and Ramadan are out of the way with the festival of Eid just finished today, Sunday – almost over for me – there is no further excuse for everybody not to be at each other’s throats again. Tomorrow would be a good day to start. Perhaps that is why Russia has chosen that day to state that it intends to clear 80Km of the M4 highway in northern Syria between Aleppo and al-Hasakah. And just maybe why on Saturday the US decided to block a Russian Military Police patrol from returning to its own base in al-Qamishli – according to reports.
Gamesmanship. It’s all gamesmanship. I hope Russia comes with its Serious Face tomorrow (and some serious backup) and brooks no US pettyminded interference.
I shall watch with intrerest. Maybe sleepy time is over.
