Good things are happening in our world but we tend to only look at and focus mainly on all the many bad things which beset the majority of humanity – most of which are not of their (our) choosing. It appears to be difficult to escape that cloying mindset, but we must. Because it is only by focusing on the exquisite values of the good, that we can hope to overcome the rampant evils of the bad.
That idea is what draws me to the valued writings of economist and geopolitical analyst Peter Koenig who was, as a matter of interest, for many years an employee of the World Bank. I have shared a number of his pieces over the years, for instance this one: A Message of Peace and Goodwill – I think appropriately titled as it came just before the ‘season of good will’ in 2020 [Note: the Koenig piece is still available – and interesting in light of what has occurred since – but the url has changed (see link below)] and from which I quote…
…in which I now note that Koenig gives no honoured capital naming convention (lower case ‘w’ for west) to the provably dishonourable group. I do that too sometimes and resolve to pay more attention to the point in future.
I cannot better the writing of Peter Koenig and so will not try. Instead, I suggest you read his work (a fine piece) for yourself…
Russia – Freeing Africa from Western Bondage by Peter Koenig on Chronicles: Sovereign Global Majority – Nov 01, 2026
I will add just one further note. Both Russia and China it seems, relatively wealthy and powerful in their own right, are the only two nations among all the supposedly wealthiest, and are perhaps the most wealthy when debt is taken into account (though I can’t prove that), which look outwardly to other less developed nations desirous of improving their position for the benefit of their own peoples, to offer a helping hand – in brotherly gesture – to help facilitate that goal. I see no-one else making the same gesture for the good of humanity (although others may yet be struggling with more existential matters just now). And of course, by conducting trade under fair terms, without forcing outlandish demands, in order to provide and form markets for their own and mutual benefit.
Outlook is definitely improving for all who wish to share in that fine ideal. This is inconceivable for the west, but not I hope for the rest of us. And if some western nations can see the sense in that and somehow manage to alter their warped western thinking, jump ship to join the side of common sense and decency, as valued equal partners to the rest of the world, well… good on ’em.
