Remember the Big Bad Wolf Who Dressed as Grandma to Sweet Talk Little Red Riding Hood?

Well, we are seeing a replay of that story recently. I have no doubt of that.

I have only one concern just now. All else is sideshow.

And that is… can Russia (Little Red Riding Hood) see through the disguise of the Wicked Wolf (Trump’s US) who, through deceptively friendly chat, tries to avert her suspicion, but who seriously just wants to ‘eat her up’? We know LRRH is not without defences, her strong Axeman working nearby – waiting her call – but will she become so enamoured by the Wolf’s soothing tones and assurances, to actually know when the line has been crossed?

I have recently warned that no-one should ever trust the US, or its Wolf Pack subordinates. And we know that LRRH has been fooled before by them (think Minsk). So, will they fall again under the spell?

I declare they will not do so, even though some doubts still linger. But can the Russians allow even a partial mending of ties to occur, without becoming gradually enmeshed in the deadly embrace of the West? Of course there are now other voices within the dialog. Russia has a great many friends in the wider world, and colleagues in affiliated organisations, to warn of such possibilities. But it is Russia’s willingness to ‘get along’ with everyone that remains the still fragile weak spot in her defences which is of concern to me. And it is that fragility which I think is so endearing to so many about Russia.

Perhaps I am worrying to no purpose. Perhaps Russia has already learned the appropriate lesson of the lack of trustworthiness in the westerners – all of them. I hope so. I doubt Russia has any scheming of her own going on. Such thoughts are not in her bag of tricks. But she may be planning to eventually ‘out’ the deceit of those who want to destroy her, by granting them some opportunities to incriminate themselves. And such would be fine with me. In fact it would be some form of repayment for past evils and totally justified, in my view.

But, with different voices urging ‘this way’ and ‘that way’, simultaneously, until it happens, I guess we will never be quite sure which way the flickering candle light will eventually be blown.

But we do know that the Big Bad Wolf always loses in these contests, don’t we. It’s why we are all still here. And also why Russia has never been, nor ever will be, ‘eaten up’.
